Default 1966 Mustang - simple vacuum port question

When I acquired my car the vac advance was connected to the full vac port, and not the timed port. The car ran decently, but I have since purchased a new carb and now am still trying to sort out a miss at higher rpms. My question: is the vac line really supposed to be connected to the full vac port on carb base - or the timed port? I have heard both ways, but it seems to me it should be the timed port.

I'm assuming you're speaking regarding the vacuum port going to the distributor. I had it hooked up to full vacuum for a while myself and it ran fine until I figured out it was supposed to be on the timed vacuum port. I would take a peek at the manual for the carb and see what it has to say, but I'm almost certain it'll tell you to put it on the timed port.

Some Fords have the vacuum advance connected to the manifold vacuum and others have it connected to the timed port. Once the throttle is opened it makes no difference but at idle it gives you full vacuum advance if it is connected to the manifold vacuum. It might make the car idle better or worse depending on your timing settings.
Either way make sure you time the engine with the vacuum hose disconnected and plugged.
