As you can see I have already taken it upon myself to document the 68 Fog light system

Someone sells these underdash harnesses. Virginia Mustang Parts is that where you got yours?

That looks like the correct harness but I think that part number was invented by some parts salesman and not by Ford. The fog harness on my San Jose GT from July of '66 had a Ford paper tag with a number of C5ZB-151223-C. If they were using the C5 number in July I don't see why they would have had a C6 number the prior December. Since '65 and '66 wiring are different that obviously says that the A and/or B versions are likely for the '65 and the C version is for the '66.

It seems common for supposed 'part numbers' to be 'invented' by various vendors in an attempt add fake 'originality' to their parts. I read the 'fud' on that part number as meaning 'Ford, under dash' and should not be confused with an original Ford number.

Part numbers are different than Part Identification stamping /tag numbers

Plus there are supercede numbers happening all the time

True. But when you go to buy an original wiring harness, unless you find an NOS one still in a box, you only have the paper tag with which to identify whatever it is. You don't care exactly all the history behind it, you want the proper harness. You will never find an original Ford tag that says 'c6zz-15223-fud'.

The 'ZZ' is supposed to imply Ford replacement part for a Mustang but usually today implies a psuedo number that Ford never made. If a vendor wanted to make a 'true' repro they would use the original number that should have been on the car from the factory. But that would imply using a lot of C5 numbers, etc., on a '66 and instead of trying to understand, or even more difficult - to explain it all, they just invent C6 numbers instead.
