Question Will a 428 Police Intercepter Intake Manifold fit on my 390 engine?

HI all...it's me again....

RE: 68 FB GT 390
Question for you.....how much power/efficiency will I gain by switching my stock 390 intake manifold for a 428 PI manifold?? I've heard this should help lighten things up a bit and imporve torque....do you recommend ?? Because the PI manifold is from a FE..it should fit no problem on my 390..right?

Thanks all!

it will fit, and since it is cast iron, weigh about the same, get an aftermarket aluminum intake, and a few strong guys to help get the old one off, thos suckers are REAL heavy

My friends were no where to be found when it was time to pull the old cast iron one off my 64 Galaxie. Cast Iron weighs 75 lbs if im not mistaken. That is why I have a Edelbrock Perfomer390 on my FE. It looks and works great.

Default SAY WHAT?

The PI is an ALUMINUM intake, and was used on the 428 Shelbys. It is an Excellent intake if it is in good condition. If you can buy a nice one for less than $350, grab it. the PI is one of the best intakes Ford ever made. Yes it will fit on any of the FE engines 352,390,427,428, and if this were not such a nice piece of eqipment, it wouldn't retain such a consistently high price. Remember though, this IS an older piece, so make sure it is in very good to excellent condition. Best of luck in your pursuits.

Ask specific questions, though most people selling these come right out and tell you. Start with any repairs made? The bolt holes are easy to crack if over tightened. Yes, ask if ported, personally I would try to buy one that has not been ported, as these already came with the large CJ ports to begin with. Keep a watch on ebay, read how these are being described (you can really learn alot by window shopping), and go ahead and ask a question of the seller. Remember no question is too dumb when it comes to your money, except the one you didn't ask! Regards

Thanks Twister, So we add to our knowledge base. Be sure to ask if it is ALUMINUM! ...... No one famous once said, "if you think you know it all, that's another thing you don't know".

same issue above, bought the Edelbrock intake for a 428 and ordered the alum. heads. The block is a 66 428 and was marked "A" in the back, had cast iron intake as well.

If you really want to make that 390 come alive......

If you really want to make that 390 come alive - if you have access to the whole 428, I would swap out heads, intake, carb, and (I think) exhaust manifolds.
My cousin once had a 390 in a '67 fastback - we found (lucked up really) a 428 SCJ in a junkyard that had thrown a rod, but we got the carb, intake manifold, dual-point dist., heads, and exhaust manifolds (I think - I cannot remember for sure about the exhaust) and bolted them on his 390.
WOW! All I can say is what a difference - it was a screamer!

Roger that, the stock intake and exhaust manifolds are the worst parts on an FE; best improvement you could make.
