Default 1964.5 Mustang-headlight and dashlight problem.

So my lo beams and dashlights on my 64.5 mustang stopped working one night. The high beams and all other lights work just fine. I replaced the headlight switch and same problem. Any thoughts?

Hello. This is a pretty strange sounding problem, since the two systems don't have anything in common other than the actual headlight switch. Also, there is a red wire with a yellow stripe that takes power from the headlight switch down to the dimmer switch. Only one wire. If either the high beams or the low beams work, the problem is not at the headlight switch. It has to be somewhere between the dimmer switch and the actual headlights. The instrument lights have a fuse in the fuse box, so, the first thing that I would do is replace that fuse and see if maybe I had two problems instead of one. I would also unplug the driver's headlight and check with a volt meter to see if I had power on two of the wires with the high beams on. If no, the problem would pretty much have to be with wire that takes power to the low beams, or possibly, just the connector on the headlight plug where that wire splits off to go to the passenger side headlight.

I'm going to replace the dimmer switch today and check that fuse box. We'll see what happens. The guy I bought the car from has some crazy wiring in the dash as well.

I replaced the fuses. the inst. and rad. were both blown. Replaced the floor dimmer as well. Still only the high beams work. The low beams and dash lights are not working.

Got the dash lights working. A light broken light blub kept blowing the fuse.

..and no relays on these early mustangs. The breaker for the headlights are integrated into the headlight switch.

It was a short in the under hood wiring. All fixed now.
