Default 1966 Mustang-Trouble coming off the line

I am having trouble getting off the line. When my 66 stang is warmed up, I dont have trouble with it dying, but I have major problems getting off the line. It is an auto tranny (C4) but it has been rebuilt and beefed up by a local well-known tranny shop who built it for power and speed. I have a rebuilt 289 that has been bored out a little bigger and placed a Shelby-similar Cam in it. The engine should not have any problems getting off of the line, yet I am not able to even get a squeak from it off the line. It has no guts off the line. I have an 8inch rear and although I would like a 9 inch those are not easy or cheap to come by. Regardless I should still get something off the line. Any suggestions?

the vintage 289 mustangs had about 150hp. Are you running heads and intake/carb/exhaust with that cam?? It could even be hurting more than helping.
A stock 289 doesn't really have enough power to spin the wheels. I remember a 66 mustang that we had, and my brother beating it in his 91 escort

If you are running all that on stock heads you are probably hurting your self. It's like trying to squeeze more stuff ( gas and air)through the same size hole ( heads ). The biggest and best thing you will ever do performance wise is aftermarket heads. I could hardly turn them over before now I'm looking into positive traction rearends because I can't hardly stop spinning them.

so my heads are really posing that much of a problem? what heads do you recommend that I could get for a reasonable price, or what heads should i search for that will swap to my mustang from another model? I realize BOSS302 heads or 351W...right? But good luck with those, right?

they're a bottleneck...you've opened up everything else but them.

research gt40 heads and gt40p heads...great bang for the buck. Not sure how they work on older motors though
