Default Front directionals and back up lights

I had a problem a while back and found that a fuse was blown on my back up lights. I replaced the fuse and all is normal. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to replace the backup lights and bought new ones but found that after installation, one was brighter than the other. I blew it off until today. Ground is OK then I take the bulbs out and they're dual element. My question is this...obviously the supplier sent me lamp sockets for front directionals that were mistakenly installed in the back up lights. Everybody screws up sometimes, not a big deal yet. What I'd like to do is take the back up lights and install them as directionals. The white lenses are almost period correct but I need to know if the bezels are interchangable. I need new directionals anyway and the problem could then be solved by buying another set of back up lights.
Has anyone done this before? Even though they'll have to come out anyway, I'd like to know before I remove them.

In case anyone is reading this stuff...I figured it out. First of all the lamp gets its ground from the casing not from a lead coming off the end of the socket. The replacements that I bought were from "Scott somebody" and had two leads. One lead had the standard connection while the other had a ring connector which would indicate to me it is a ground. Well, they screwed up at the factory and the units should have had single pin sockets not bi-pin and one lead instead of two. I took the wires off that I had grounded and the lights came on like they were supposed to. I guess another thing I could have done would be to splice both wires together and had 2 elements burning when they were energized.

RE-fixed. Someone told me that the backup lights were supposed to be dual element for brightness so I spliced the two leads together. Done! I still don't understand the two different terminations though. Just gotta be a manufacturing mistake.
