Default 1967 Steering control valve

My steering control valve on my car is leaking just like everything else in the power steering system. Is there more than one ford car that have this same valve that I could get out of a junkyard? I could just buy a new one but am trying to save money, or should I convert it to manual steering and forget about the power steering?

Google search "67 mustang powersteering rebuild kit". Should take you to an article in "Mustang Monthly", might help! Problem with junk yard parts is they probably leak too.

mavericks and comets of about the same year use the same parts. the 67 and later have a two piece setup, the 65 and 66's the control valve is integral with the drag link so make sure you get the right one. but I agree with what jp said junk yard parts are likely to leak. I have never done it but it does not look that complicated to rebuild the control valve on a 67. but ultimately my experience with these systems has not been good I struggled for years to get mine to not leak. I finally got frustrated and converted to power rack and pinion. but that is certainly not the budget approach.

If it were me I would either rebuild the control valve myself or send it off and have it rebuilt. someone on this forum a while back had a link to this site
http://www.chockostangclassicmustang...gservices.html

they sell the rebuild kit and also do rebuilding of your parts. you might call and see what that would cost. I think you would be better off than trying to find a junkyard piece that is better than yours.

I had Randy rebuild my control valve and power cylinder,

he did excellent work and cleaned/painted it for FREE. He has my gearbox for a rebuild now. I replaced my hoses with new Gates PS hoses when I reinstalled my control valve and have not had a leak.

I'll tell you a little known secret ....what I did with mine 3 years ago and it worked great............ a cap full of dot 3 brake fluid in the pump and drive the car a few hundred miles.
If it is a dry brittle seal the brake fluid will soften it up and swell it
NOTE !!!! this is not a recommend procedure but is a trick I learned years ago from a ford mechanic .
It may or may not work for you ,I personally have not lost a drop of power steering fluid in three years.
DO NOT put more than a cap full in if you try this, too much will ruin all of the rubber items in the system .
More is NOT better with this trick .
good luck
