Default Gas tank replacement

I am in the middle of replacing my gas tank, but I dont remember what way the fuel line on the sending unit supposed to face, driverside or passangers side? Does it even matter? It is a 1966 Coupe 200cid. Any help would be appreciated.

I replaced my gas tank 3 months ago and the sending unit will only go in the tank one way. That will determine how you connect the fuel line. The float on the sending unit has to be in the bottom of the tank on installation and in fact won't go in any other way. I had a thread here about it with some good advice from others and also referred to my shop manual for correct info. If you don't have one I highly recommend it.

Random note on replacing the fuel tank. You should seriously consider using a product that cleans and then seals the inside of the fuel tank to avoid future rusting issues. I wouldn't trust that the tank you got has already had this treatment. I believe that POR makes a product to do this. Anyone have experience here?

Any another tip arounf the rubber gasket that you get for the sending unit rub some Dawn dish soap on it, it helps make sure you wont get any leaks and makes a good seal.
