Default 1967 Mustang DSO information

I looked up the door plate information on my car. I understand everything except for the DSO, I was looking online an it said it meant Direct Special Order. Can anybody explain to me what that means. The number was 33 which was Detroit if that helps any.

thanks

It actually stands for District Sales Office. That means that the car was ordered from the factory by a dealer in Detroit.

It would be the Detroit area, not always in Detroit itself, as the regions were divided by closest cities. It could have been any surrounding areas too.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.
