So if you have some repaired areas and some with oem paint, do you spray 2k epoxy over it all? I haven't seen any mention of how to mesh the repaired an unrepaired surfaces for a complete repaint.

If the factory paint is solid and in good condition, it can be roughed up (to give it some "tooth" to bite into) and epoxy appied over it as well as the bare metal.

It will make a solid hard coat to keep out water and air so rust wont form under it.

If the paint is NON FACTORY it is best to go to metal.

If the factory paint is flaking or cracking it is also best to go to metal.

Good Luck and BE Safe

Good to know, thanks!

I've heard it recommended that you use a light color epoxy primer. Does that really matter, or does it depend on your topcoat color?

If you are trying to match a color it does matter.
I used black epoxy for my seal coat because I shot dark gray base coat.
With lighter colors really need to be careful when selecting the seal coat or epoxy color. That is something to talk over with the paint shop jobber for a pro opinion. The brand you are going to use for a topcoat will also have recommendations.

Yeah you can paint over old paint but i would strip all the paint off.If they did that to your quarters who knows what else they did like that its better to do it once then twice. And get you some of the longest sanding blocks you can get they work great.Always sand in a big x pattern and watch all body lines.A body line i always tape half off sand up to it then tape the other half sand over to it.In tight spots or like door and trunk jam you can get away with a red scuff pad.
