Default New part for under the hood of your 1964-1970 Mustang

HI all. I am new here and like I posted in my introduction, I do not own a Mustang. But, my friend wayne does. He has a '65 he is rebuilding into a resto rod. Wayne is a long time hot rodder and builds his own cars. That being siad, he told me about a part he wanted to make and I said that was a great idea. Well, he has made some and they work on '65 to '66 (tall ones) and '67 to '70 Mustangs (short ones). These are replacement shock tower caps and machined out of 6061 T6 billet aluminum and bolt inplace of the stamped piece. Check out the pics below.

I would like to state I am NOT selling these but I thought you would like to see them. Wayne is pretty much computer illiterate so I am showing these for him.

I am sure he can but I don't know what is needed to make one work. got a pic of under your hood and the piece it would replace? I am pretty sure these caps will work on same year Cougars and Falcons too. Wayne is planning on selling these and has them out for bid to some machine shops. They are very cool and really dress up the engine compartment. Also they will will work with stamped export braces with a little modification to the brace.

Well, looks like Wayne is going to have a few of these made for both the '64 to '66 Mustangs and the '67 to '70 Mustangs. I am trying to gauge if there is a interest for these.

So these caps are for factory stock cars with original shock towers and normal shocks? So it looks like the top part of the shock connects underneath were it cannot be seen? So the underside of these caps have nuts welded on inside?

Since you're in CA, I would have Wayne contact Mustang's Plus Mustangs Plus and see what they think. Wayne may have a very marketable product, and MP deals with many restomods, the market this will be geared torwards. They are the closest Mustang parts supplier to you plus the build and track thier own cars.

These caps replace the factory stamped part. The shock is then covered and the top of the shock bolts to the cap. So far it looks like all bolts and washers will be supplied in Stainless Steel so polishing will be easy. You can use the caps with shorter shocks. OF rthe '67-'70 Mustangs it looks like you can use the taller '64-66 caps and stock shocks to lower your car about 1" or so. I have not measured them but Wayne has and told me that they would do that. I do know Wayne can use email so if anyone wants to ask him a question I will put you in touch with him by email of phone.

As for Mustang parts suppliers, I know they will charge more then Wayne will or even steal his design. This does and has happened so he doesn't want to go the route of a wholesaler, at least not yet.

By putting photos of Wayne's invention online without a patent or at least a patent pending, I believe they have been put into the public domain and may not be protectable at this point. Anyone can grab the idea and go to work in a machine shop.

It would cost more to patant then what anyone would make on parts. But, the name is copywrited and the design has been registered. Al long as there in not big money in it nobody will mess with it. They are not cheap to make and require a duel head machine with ATC if you want any kind of production. He had a set show polished and the cost was $80 a pair so I think it would be about as cheap to chrome them. But most people have indicated they like the machined finish best.

Default Pro built '69 with caps

Here is a '69 Mustang that is being professionally built at a shop in LA. Wayne went down and installed the caps for pictures and the owner wanted to keep them. This car is almost done and is getting the interior and finishing touches right now and it should be done in 2 or 3 weeks. Should be done in plenty of time to make the long Beach Mustang show on 9/20/09 at the Queen Mary. These pics actually show them off a little better so let me know what you think.
