Default Good advice and a clean carburator=running car

I have put a couple of posts up here about getting my mustang running. I couldn't start it or it would start but it would spew gasoline out of the vents on the top of the carb and catch fire..yikes!

Well I checking the timing about 6 times, with the advice of some members on this site, taking off the pulleys and resetting to NO.1 TDC and realigning the distributor.
I got a sputtering start but it would die and then ultimately didn't start at all.

I was told that it might be the floats in the carb misaligned.
Well, I took the top off and had a little look inside and found a whole mess of particulate and debris in the float chamber.
So I bought a rebuild kit and, following the instructions given, rebuilt it replacing the needles and various other parts after a thorough cleaning...I used two bottles of carb cleaner heh
I also had to realign those floats because they were both off by about half an inch...both topside up and upside down.

Installed it, hooked it up and boom...it turned over with out a hitch as the gas filled the carb and then boom it started up and sounded really good.

I have one more thing to deal with. I discovered knocking and it turns out my rockers' nuts are gradually spinning out and causing the rocker to come off so I'm going to go and get some jam nuts to use and hopefully that will work.

I want to say you guys are great, albeit sarcastic sometimes, but really helpful.
Thanks to those who helped me and AllFordMustangs!
John

The only issue I have with the rocker arms now is getting them to the right clearance. I do like the book says and put them on the TDC of that cylinder(both valves/rockers fully shut) and tighten down until the play in the rod is gone then go 1/2 turn more and that's it.

On a couple, when I do this, it actually starts compressing the spring. Is that normal?
