Default Door windows from a 1969 and a 1968 door. Door window question.

OK!... I have a 1968 Mustang Coupe, currently but not foreverly with a 302... BUT The engine is not the concern.

My Main Queue is that I Love the horse, but there are other parts of the coupe I prefer different. Such as the widows on the 1968 have sail wings. the 1969 does not. Could I take the 1968 window and mechanical stuff from the door and then insert and bolt up the 1969 window and mechanical things into the 1968 door frame and everything work well?

Very Much Apriciated!... Laters!

I never say it can't be done, but it would be difficult to do.

The pop-out window pivots on the leading edge and you would have to figure out how to install those pivots. You'd have to install a bracket that the locking mechanism would latch onto. You would have to close up the opening that the window on the '68 rolls down into. The door jam has an opening that would have to be closed up too. A different type of gasket would have to be made to seal the window. The existing window seals out the weather becasue the window slides into a channel in the rubber and this won't allow it to pop out of this channel with the new mechanism.

Personnally, I don't like those windows on the '69/'70 cars and can't figure out why anyone would want a pop-out window over a window that rolls down all the way. I have often thought the '69 / '70 cars should have had rear roll down windows. I think the car would look much better with all the windows rolled down down.

If you are talking about a 69/70 coupe, the rear quarter windows do roll down, not pop out.

Since he started the thread asking about the '69 Sportsroof Pop-Out style windows he wanted to adapt to his '68 Coupe, I just continued that thought in my response.

I'll say "No". The roof line profile and angles are different and these parts aren't a bolt in operation between the two different years and body styles. These parts won't drop in, this would be all custom fabrication.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Jay, I think he wanted to use his window and make it work like the '69 Sportsroof rear windows. I agree that it would take a lot of fabrication to do it.

PwG's post is a bit confusing, but I now think I understand what he's talking about.

He wants to remove the vent windows on his '68 Coupe. I think he'd have to be real clever to fashion a window in the '68 door without the vent windows. I don't know if a '69 window / regulator mechanism could be made to fit in a '68 door and who knows if the shape of the '69 window would be right for sealing against the roof. It may be curved different. He'd have to move the glass channels, make up some kind of a gasket for the window leading edge to seal against.

It might be easier to just buy a '69 Coupe!

He wants wing windows on a 69.It can be done but every part will have to be custom made even the glass.Nothing from a 68 door will bolt on a 69 the roof lines are way different and the 69 has a more rounded side.

No

He said he has a '68 Coupe, so he wants the '69 look - without the vent window.
