Default 1968 mustang with 302, catalytic converters?

so im replacing the exhaust system in my 1968, mildy modified 302 for street. The car has a comp cam, try y headers, 570cfm holley street avenger, T5 tranny. I'm going to order flowmaster muflers, because I like the sound of them, and will get the exhaust done at a local shop. I was wondering since im having the exhasut done, what would happen to the cars performance and sound if i placed 2 catalytic converters?

Ive seen some magnaflow unviversal catalytic converters for a reasonable price, and was wondering if this would reduce the emissions coming out of the car, or will this just be a waste of money, time and maybe performance?

It would pretty much be a waste of time, money and most importantly performance. You dont need an emission test on cars older than 25yrs.

I generally agree with you except for the last statement. That depends upon where you live. Here in Enchilada Land emissions test are required for anything newer than 1973. A 35 year old car needs a tailpipe inspection EVERY year.

Another reason I am re-building an almost 45 year old car.

A typical 60s engine runs so rich that a catalytic converter in the system would likely melt from all the heat it would generate from the rich exhaust. If CARB doesn't require cats I would not consider them.

yeah, guess ill just ditch that idea, i know i dont have to smog the car, mainly thats why i use it all the time. but my girlfriend is kind of a tree hugger, and is always nagging at me on how my car is a hazard to the earth, but i laugh it out. PLus its not like she complains when shes riding in it, hahahaa.
