Question 1965 Mustang Rear Tire Clearance

Good news: The 1965 mustang restoration is complete!
Bad news: Still working out some quirks including rear tire clearance.

I have the Scott Drake 15x7" styled steel wheels and BF Radial T/A tires on the car. Also used the mid eye leaf springs to lower the rear end about an inch and it looks great, however the tires are rubbing the rear fenders just outside the tread. No problems in front.

With a little research I found that a 3.75-4" offset is recommend for this wheel size and the Scott Drake rims have 4 5/8" offset, hence the clearance problem.
This is a daily driver car so it has to be safe and reliable.

Any suggestions?

Roll rear fender?
Change to std eye leaf springs?
Add a spacer or modify the bumper?

Thanks,
-JC

You did not mention what size tires you are running front and rear...

well...you answered your question..roll the lip if it is just hitting the lip...if its hitting the outer edge of the quarter panel..you need that 3 3/4 inch backspacing minimum...I am assuming you are running wide tires on it?? I run 14 inch AR rims in a 14x7 with a 3 3/4 backspacing with the reverse eye springs and a 245 50R14 BF tire...I used to run 265s in the back but could never let anyone sit in the back seat and would always have to drive slow when the road were ruff ..it was all about rubbing and shredding my tire...so from my set up you should be able to adjust your set up accordingly

Default Tire clearance and possible fix.

I am running the BF Goodrich Radial T/As in the P225/60R15 size front and back. I picked this size because it matched up will to the OD of the stock tires. Maybe on the next set I will get slightly smaller tires.

I emailed the guys at scott drake because I though this might be a common problem. They seamed to think that these rims worked well for most applications and that any less backspacing would cause problems on the front.

I am going to try an inexpensive fix, a set of 1" longer shackles they make. It should give me more clearance in the rear but I might still have problems w/ a lot or weight in the trunk or back seat. Normally the back seat is reserved for our 10 week old and he is only 13 lbs. at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback.
