Default 1965 Mustang flywheel?

I bought a new clutch kit to so i can replace it since my engine is already out. Although I didnt buy a new fly wheel. what is the best way to tell if the flywheel is good or not with the engine out and the flywheel is still attached?

Default 1965 Mustang flywheel?

Hello khearon,
I am just an old back-yard mechanic but I would
1. - Check for broken teeth
2. - Look at the face of the flywheel for bluing signs
3. -Run a straight-edge across the flat and see is true.

There is probably some sort of dial indicator that a mechanic would have but I don't know.

I offer one other suggestion:
Check/replace the pilot bushing while it is apart. This is the little brass bushing in the center that holds the tani pilot shaft in the canter...
Others with more tch skills will reply but for now that is what I'd do Print Dad

Again, i have agree with print Print Dad on this one as well. Look for cracks on the flywheel surface. If a cars been run had, the face of the flywheel where the clutch disc comes into contact will get cracks. If its blue from heat like print dad says, it could be warped slightly if so, pull the flywheel off and have it ground (providing the teeth are not wore or chipped. its cheaper to take it to a machine shop (engine shop) and have it ground than to buy a new one. otherwise replace it. If you are unsure, then consider the amount of work you will have to go through if you have to pull the flywheel off after putting it together and have it in the car.
