Default 66 Mustang 289 won't stay idleing

I timed my motor to 6 degrees btc like ford told me too. Sounds smooth but i can't keep it idleing unless i have the rpm up above 1200. I've checked vaccum lines and all seems good. Any help on this matter would be great. Thanks

Hello Korbin33,
Start with the easy simple things first.
1. - Check the fuel filter. (Attached to the carb if stock if not what type carb
2. - Check the air cleaner
3. - Check the PVC valve. In valve cover (take out and shake it you should feel the rattle.
4. - It does sound like perhaps a vac leak.
5. - Points (check dwell if you have a meter)
6. - is the choke fully open when warm. (This is the plate at the top of the carb opening)

Double check all the lines. Then you could take a can of starter fluid and lightly spray around base of carb and the vac lines. if the motor picks up...there is a leak

Start with the simple and post back Print Dad

Sounds like a vacuum leak or restricted air flow. Follow Print Dad's advice and also check the pcv port for carbon build up.
