Default Need Advice on Painting 1966 Mustang Emblems

I have some body emblems on my 1966 Mustang convertible which could use some painting. For example, look at this color faded running Pony side emblem.

First, is it best to paint these emblems by brush or better to spray them?

Second, does anyone have the correct color codes for the red and blue so I can buy the right paint? Thanks for any input.

P.S. My rear gas cap could also use some freshening up but I want to do it right instead of some bozo job. Did I say bozo?

Hypostang.
thanks for that tip. I wonder though if I'll be able to find the correct blue and red colors in Testors model paint. White I am not worried about.

I am also working on trying to repair a taillight housing bucket. One of the studs broke.

I thought I was the only nut who would actually look to paint the emblems rather than buy new ones. I am glad I did, it was fairly easy and even better, I didnt have to take them off the car.

I went to a crafts store, even WalMart has this type of acrylic paint in their crafts section. It cost $1 per bottle. I used the typical very tiny brushes you would use for detail work.

I took a guess on the colors and honestly, they look great.

For blue, I used Royal Blue
For red, I used True Red
For white, I used Wicker white.

Those may not be the exact colors, but to my eyes they look perfect.

Also, just be sure to mask off each section as you do it, makes it alot cleaner looking.

Same here. Hobby Lobby, etc., sell the model paint. Its not hard to find a color that is so close no one will know the difference. Its also easy to brush the stuff in the emblem on or off the car. I've been doing it that way for nearly 30 years.

With some of the repros emblems I have seen I would rather repaint an original one if its in decent shape.

A florescent red also works well on the gauge needles which have usually faded. That yellow stripe down the center of each needle should really be red.

Thanks everyone for your excellent input. I am glad I am not alone in wanting to spruce up old but decent original Mustang parts.
