Default 1966 Mustang coupe gas everywhere!

I noticed yesterday gas just pouring from around my fuel pump, only when it's running. Is this the fuel pump? just a gasket? Is the switch to electric a tough job and is it worth switching?

yes, the pump has gone bad. just get a new pump, don't need an electric.

i used the blue holley elec fuel pump with the regulator to make my swap. i also used the oil pressure shut off switch, that way when the engine loses pressure, like if i were to turn off, the pump auto shuts off. also when i crank the engine it turns off with the pressure is high enough. every thing works great, besides the damn pump humming all the time.
all u need is a mechanical fuel pump block off, the elec fuel pump and regulator, the wiring kit for ur application, and a pressure switch. a mechanical fuel pump would be less expensive tho, and a faster repair, just take it off, bolt the new one on, and reattach the lines.
but first where is the pump leaking from? the lines? or is it cracked some where? u should take pics and postem up. u dont want to buy a new pump if ur pump isnt at fault. then ur just throwing money in the wrong places and goin no where on ur stang.

I haven't had a chance to take a close look, my Sunday afternoon went to cr@p real fast. I also had a trans fluid leak on my primary vehichle, so the mustang took a back seat. I took a quick peak under the car and saw gas everywhere, all over the pump, I'm not sure if I could isolate it. I can get a mechanical for only $30. What is this canister / no canister business?

the canister type has a filter on the bottom of it. looks like a mini oil filter.

If the fuel pump goes bad you may also want to check the oil to see if any gas ended up in the crankcase. I've had this happen on other vehicles and it thins out the oil. If it looks like this is the case make sure to change the oil after replacing the fuel pump.

Thanks, I never thought of that, this may be a "better safe than sorry" situation.
