Default T5 Swap Slip Yoke question 1967 Mustang

I'm trying to figure out if I need to modify my Slip Yoke or the Driveshaft after the swap.
I can push the yoke about 1 inch further onto the tailshaft (from the point where the U-Joint meets the rear diff) before it bottoms out.

Is that enough for play for the yoke to handle bumps and turns and whatever other movement might be required of it? Do I need to shave off another 1/2 inch or inch from the end of the yoke to allow more movement?

Thanks in advance.

Adam

There should be from 3/4" to 1" of the machined surface of the slip yoke exposed from the end of the transmission's tail shaft. You will need to have about 3/4 of the yoke's splines mated to the transmissions splined output shaft. The car needs to have all of its weight on the suspension when it's checked.

Your slip yoke does not need to be modified as long as the spline count is the same as the T5 and it slips on.
Free play of .75 to 1.00 inch is all you need as Greek said.
Here is more info on T5 yokes, U joints, free play measurements, cutting the drive shaft and aluminum drive shafts:

how are you going to shave off anything from a yoke??

you'd have to shorten the driveshaft...

put the car up on jack stands then jack up the rear to it's fullest and let it down and watch the movement of the driveshaft in and out of the trans
