Default 1966 engine stalls when hot

I have a 1966 inline 6 and when the engine gets hot it wants to stall out on me when I give it gas from a dead stop, light at a traffic light. Any thoughts out there??

Hello raythecaddie,
This is a bit tough to answer because there are a lot of things that could be wrong.
I like to start with the simple things:
1. - Has the car been tuned? - Point,s plugs, rotor, cap wires etc.

2. - Have you replaced the fuel filter
3. -How's the air cleaner filter?

How does the car start when cold?

You could have a carb issue but we need a bit more info to make sure the
little things are OK. Sounds like perhaps float level or accelerator pump
could be bad

Start with this, post back and let us know. Print Dad

I had the same problem, and it was the carb. Check if the float level is fine. You probably need to rebuild it.

Sorry Print, your right I should have been more indepth. I recently changed plugs, plug wires, points, condenser, Timed, starts great from cold, idles good at a light, but your have to very lightly feather the gas to go or else it will stall out if you are even a tiny bit aggessive. I was thinking about getting the Vaporizer carb 1100 from pony carbs instead of rebuilding.

Its probably your carb and the 1100 is a good choice over rebuild. If that doesnt work you might also check your fuel pump and make sure its up to standards. I had the same problem a while back on my v8 and it turned out to be a faulty fuel pump that would give enough gas to idle but not to run higher rpms

Hey raythecaddie,
I mess up on this forum as well. No big deal.

66mustang86 said it well. Probably a good idea to replace the carb but yo could check the fuel pump.

Disconnect the line that goes to the carb. Put that end into a clear soda/tonic bottle.
Tape secure, crank engine a few revolutions. There should be a about an 1/8th of a bottle if using 12 ounce bottle.

Prob the carb but check this out first then go for it.

I had the same problem with my 66, my fuel was vaporlocking. I ended up making my own heat dissipator under the carb. Works great. Stack gasket/aluminum sheet/gasket/aluminum sheet/gasket. I cut mine from thin aluminum sheeting. Good luck.
