Default Alternator Light Stays On: 1964 1/2 Mustang Gen/Alt Conversion

Converted a 64 1/2 to 1 wire alternator, everything seems to be working fine except the light will not go out. 14.5 volts

Thanks in advance

Koppster, I am having the ame problem with my Cobra replica. I have a 351w motor. The alt checks out fine. New battery (optima red top) New voltage regulator. Still the warning light continues to light up. I even increased the idle speed and nothing different. Used tester and shows 14.5 volts with engine running. 12.2 with it shut down. I have a very vanilla set up. No bells and whistles. Can't figure the light out. If you have any ideas please let me know. I am in contact with a Ford guy in the Chicago area that has helped me. I'll keep you posted. Thanks, Dave

What have you done to the existing wiring harness as part of your 1 wire conversion?

Did you unplug the old regulator?
Did you trace the unused wires from the old alternator back and disconnect them?

For the generator to one wire alt, depending on the alt, for the powermaster one with internal regulator, you just run one wire and you are done. You can leave all of the wires and voltage regulator on the car. As for the light the easiest solution is just to remove the light bulb!

Koppster, I found my problem(s) make sure you have your
ground(s) tight and grounded properly. If you have an external volt reg make sure the connectors are crimped down tight or the plug is plugged in properly. I didn't have my volt reg grounded well enough. Of course mine is mounted up against fiberglass. That's where I placed larger, thicker brass washers between the firewall and the volt reg. That took care of my warning light.
