Default 1967 mustang transmission quesitons

I have a 1967 mustang with a C4 transmission that drips like crazy out of the bellhousing. I don't want to pay 800 bucks to get it resealed at the transmission shop so I was wondering if I should try to fix it myself or should I try to buy another transmission and put that in? If I bought another transmission would it have to be a C4 or could I buy a different one? If I bought a different one would I be able to just drop it in, or would I have to buy a bunch of stuff to make it work? I don't want to spend a lot of money here. I haven't ever worked on a transmission so any ideas here would be good.

if you have never done any type of transmission repair in the past, I dont recommend you dive into replacing a front pump seal on a c-4. look into PA transmissions street fighter package. It is resonably priced and a quality product. and they offer a drop in c-4 for you!!

I believe it would cost you a lot more than $800 to buy a new transmission and have it installed.

I'd save up, and have your C4 seals done.

Shop around, you might find a better price to have it done.

If your mechanically inclined i would remove the trans yourself and bring just the transmission to a shop to have it checked out that will save you a ton on labor

a front pump seal should not be that expensive to have installed.
that sounds like it could be your problem, but I would also check the tourqe converter drain bolt to ensure that it is not loose. like the other guys said though,do yourself a favor and pull the trans yourself, it will save you the money the shop will charge for R&R.

oh yeah, make sure that you get yourself a tail shaft plug before you pull the trans, or the fluid will go everywhere out the back.

just a suggestion.....
