Default Transmission Swap

We have a '67 Mustang 289 with a 3-speed tranny. We have purchased a T10 Borg Warner and want to replace the 3-speed. Both trannies are the same length and bolt patterns match. However the shifter(Mr Gasket) is located forward of the 3-speed shifter. The tag on the T10 Tranny is HEK-U and it has the Fomoco logo stamped on it also. Is this the normal location for the 4-speed shifter and do we just cut a new hole in the floor pan? geo

Welcome to the site. Some of the T10 shifters mounted to the end of the tail shaft housing. You may just need to get the correct one for your application. Probably like the one from a 4 speed toploader. My 4 speed toploader is in the same place a the 3 speed. Hope this helps.

Sound like the T-10 is one meant for a Fairlane, shifter mounts farther forward on one of them. Different tailshafts, different shifter locations. Can't find the info I'm looking for now, just going on my old memory.
