Default What fuel to use???

I just bought a 1964 and a half mustang and was wondering what kind of gas to use. It came with the original car manual which says that the car needs 93 or higher octane(premium). But i was wondering if i need a lead additive or if i could just run the car off unleaded gas

Thanks

P.S. It is an inline 6.

since they dont make leaded fuel anymore or best bet is to put premium unleaded gas the highest octane at the pump and if u have the stock original heads ur valve seats wont last they are meant for leaded fuel so you would need to upgrade to the newer seats

The octane scale was different in 1964 than the one on USA pumps today. A 93 octane in 1964 is 88 octane today - almost regular, mid-grade possibly. Premium should not be needed.

Not only is there no leaded gas, there are no lead additives that are street legal; the label will say, at best, 'lead substitute'. They do little for valves but are a mild octane booster. However, since you only need 88 octane you don't need any additives.
