Default 302 intake manifold vacuum question

Im going threw the car and have always noticed that right where the water neck is, is a post that comes up off the intake with 3 ports on it?? There is nothing hooked up ur capped off? Should I try to find a plug to plug it or cap it off?

Default 302 intake manifold vacuum question

Hello 1969danscoupe,
The port thing is a thermal vacuum switch.
It was used with smog systems and probably went to the
distributor (retard portion of a dual chamber vacuum advance).

I would simply cap all three ports even though the port is not used.
The way the switched worked was it would heat up and open other ports.

Here is a pix I took from another post and modiifed.

Hello,
I am sure you could pull it and take it to a pluming supply house and they would have a cap but why chance stripping or breaking anything.

Good Luck....... Print Dad

As printdad said you can get it at most any hardware store, HD, Lowe's etc. in the plumbing section, should be NPT thread, it's a pipe plug (bring the old one if you can, want to say it's 1/2" NPT?).
