You have to define your goals. Sure a super charger is nice, but that will require a lot of fabrication to make work.
Here is a 1970 with a standard stroke 351 and an accessory mount blower with a carb hat. We currently have similar power levels (he says all he has to do is turn up the boost with a pulley change but then the motor would probably blow up

) He had to get all the brackets made custom because there weren't any for the application.

500HP isn't really a goal...it is a number that may or may not be required to meet your goals.
Is this a street car? Daily driver? weekend toy? part time track car (what kinda of track), all time track car (what kind of track)?
What is the performance mark you want to hit? (500hp again is a number, are you looking to cruise to work and romp the skinny pedal and not land in a ditch? are you looking for the 11.5 1/4 street car so you don't need a roll bar? are you looking to run 1.12 laps and pull high g's on the skid pad?)
What is the budget?
My car's goal where something I could drive to work anytime I wanted (but not a daily driver), run 11s in the 1/4 (it run 11.5 pretty consistently now enough so that if I keep nudging under it like I have a couple times at 11.45 they will stop letting me run because you need a 6 point roll bar and harnesses below 11.5), and be capable enough to take around the twisties (it would be faster in the 1/4 if I didn't race it down the straight line with a full road course suspension setup on it).
I've spent a lot of money between 3 motor builds, 4 AOD transmission builds, broken 9 inch rear end, broken leaf springs, darn near totalling it and killing myself because I took it out in bad weather (black ice) and the summer performance tires are just that....summer performance tires, etc... So it is important to get your 3 goals in alignment.
