Default 1969 Mustang Best Rack Or Go Stock Steering

What is the best rack for a 69 mustang. I read many reports of loss of turning radius. Seems randall rack has this issue. I was told Pro Motor Sport bump steer adj kit could remedy it but it is very expensive fix.

I do not want to end up with a short turn radius maybe its better just to restore the original steeering system. I always thought my 71-73 mustang drove well. Perhaps all this rack conversion is just more hype than it is really worth?

The more I research rack system upgrades the less impressed I become. All seem to have issues from steering radius to component interface issues. Upgrading the existing steering system is sounding more economical and much less problamatic.

I'm checking this kit from ABS Power Brake INC. It replaces the stock PS unit with Toyota early eighties Cressida unit, quick ratio, very smooth, less slop, etc... let ya know what I find out later today. Add rollerized DIY boxed A-arms, spring perches, (OpenTracker DIY kits), moog parts, Shelby drop, stiffening plates, 620 springs 1 1/4" lower, Koni shocks, 1 1/4" roll control bar, Monte Carlo brace....

Anyone else tried this PS system?

Hello Airrocket, we have built our own system and offer the kits.
What we did and how we accomplished it was by making our own new brackets, centerlink(if you'd call it that), new tie rod end adjusters, power rack that works with the old or new style pump and braided stainless lines. We used new steering columns as well because the old ones were ragged. You can use the old column but you must remove it in order to mount a lower guide bearing because it uses the old steering box for this now, the aftermarket ones have their own lower guide bearing.
We have ZERO bumpsteer with ours because we addressed what causes this to begin with.
The cars (5-69's and 4 - 70's) drive, steer and track like 2008 cars - no bs. all we have done is power though - no manual.
our racks are 3.0 turns lock to lock and we have not witnessed any loss of turning radii yet. complete 1k no cutting or welding, but as stated you will have to pull or replace your column to install a lower guide brg. hand tools only and if you are "a decent mechanic" you can install it faster than the time you spend pulling off your pitman arm, idler arn, centerling, ram, steering box, ram bracket and tie rod ends.
even if you dont have power sttering all you need is a pump and the mounting brackets and our kit. I will probably be edited by the moderator byt IM me if you are serious, I am - and gurantee everthing I just typed.
Joe

Joe,

Well I hope moderator leaves this alone because I feel this is a huge issue that needs a better solution than what many of the current rack manufactures offer. Seems some are not up front on turn radius issue. Man I would very PO'd tp close to $2K for something that I was to drive into parking lot. That to me is bragging show no go BS.

Sounds interesting for $1,000 especially if I can come up with a good original pump. The ABS Power brake Inc Toyota based PS units cost between $950 manual car and additional $125 for power steering. There is a manual trans issue however it sounds like they have a work around for it.

Your rack design sounds good and priced right. Will it work with 351 Clevelands, TKO 500, 600 or TKz manual tranmissions?
