Default Help needed - 1965 Mustang Master Cylinder

I ordered/rec'd a Dual Bowl Front Disc/Rear Drum Manual Master Cylinder from CJ Pony Parts for my 65 Mustang...here's the problem...when I install the original push rod, theres no notch inside the new M/C sleeve to lock in the spring clip, so you can pull the push rod out?! is this correct? This is the 2nd M/C they've sent me and I'm not sure it's the right one...

That does sound odd. Is it possible the master cylinder is for a power brake set up when in fact you have manual brakes ?

Id no body here knows for sure, call ABSpowerbrakes in Ca. they can tell you.

I put a dual bowl mc in my 65 last year when i converted to front disc from drums. Kept it manual. It came wt a new pushrod. The new pushrod doesnt lock into the mc it is only held in by the pressure in the mc. This was from sacramento mustang and it was a master Power brand setup hope this helps.

If it dosen't lock into the MC, can it pop out during normal/heavy braking? or does the brake pedal position keep it from dislodging?
CJ Pony lists this MC as a 67/68 type, does that mean that the original 67/68 pushrods don't lock in OE MC's?

On mine the rod slides into the mc several inches so when the brake pedal is all the way out and resting on the stopper it is still far enough in the mc it cant possibly come out. I cant say for sure on yours but with mine the original push rod would not work in the new mc because it was too short. I would check with the dealer and make sure you dont need a new pushrod to go with the new mc.

I upgraded, but not the one from CJ. I know I had to really pushed hard to engage that clip on the rod onto the MS. When I 1st put the rod on to the MS, I also thought it wasn't going to clip in place. The MS I got was for a 67 drum/drum. I used the 66 rod w/clip.

Even without that clip, I don't see that rod coming out of the MS once installed to the brake pedal.

Here is the Reality in the Master Cylinders.

The Power Disc Master-The Ones used with a Booster, Has no Provisions inside the Piston of the Master to allow the Clip on the end of the Push rod to "Clip into".

The Manual Disc Master, The Ones that come with a Push rod, has a Machined area in the piston to allow the clip to snap into.

Look in the Rear of the Master, Look closely, There will be this Machined area/Ring.

If Unsure--It is rather diffecult to determine, use a Paper clip, it will "Bump over, catch" on the lip.

Depth of the Power Disc Master vs Manual Disc Masters are Different, effecting Pedal Heigth.

Yes, Push Rods Falling out is the Reason Ford, Chevy, all put in a Clip to keep them in there--No Brainer!

If you are receiving a Manual Disc Master, it will have provisions for the Push Rod to Stay in place.

I have the MC in hand and afer checking it thouroughly, it does not have the machined ring in it where the spring clip should engage...
Apparently this MC is a 67/68 style...does anyone know if the 67/68 MC came without the spring clip? I guess once the pushrod is installed and locked in with the barke pedal, realistically there is no way it could pop out?..

Update... I just spoke to CJ Pony and they told me that I have the wrong MC..the manual dual bowl Master should have the grove inside the bore cylinder for the spring clip attched top the push rod.. They mistakingly shipped a power master that does not have the groove machined inside...although unlikely, if anyone is using the pwr master, the push rod could fall out and cause your brakes to fail..

thanks for your help...
