Default Four lug rims on a inline six 1966 mustang?

I know the question may sound a bit...ridiculous, but I was on the web searching around and found a picture of a 1966, line six mustang with a set of four lug rims on it that was made for a early foxbody.

I wanted to give the picture to show you what I'm trying to get at.
I own a 1966 and was wondering what kind of modification they would have had to do to achieve this?
Any respone would be grately appreciated. I really want a nice set of rims enstead of just the old school hubcaps...

Default Well

Well, i'm not 100% sure. But, probably they just either used fox body spindles,axles/8.8 rear end to do this.. then again, who knows.. personally, i'd say just go to Mustang Wheels and Tires, Mustang Cobra Rims 1979 - today 17, 18 20 inch and find somthing more to your liking.

You could just change over to 5 lug spindles and then you would have your choice of any number of rims for your car.

I6 mustangs were equiped with a 7.5 rear end (correct me if im wrong) and all 7.5's came with 4 lug wheels and single traction my 68 (original I6) still has the 7.5 rear on it and some nice enough 4 lug wheels. nothing strange about it, unfortunately im stuck with my 302 engine swap and that 4 lug rear and spinning one wheel with only one choice of gear untill i can get a 8 or 9 inch either way, thats how its supposed to be and once again correct me if im wrong but the fox bodies has the same 4 lug pattern in the 8.8 (which im thinking about swapping to so i can keep my 4 lug wheels and/or upgrade in the future to 5 lug axles)

the first mustang I haD WAS A 641/2 and had a full set of original 13 inch 4 lug wheels on a 4.5 bolt pattern, and my 67 has the four bolt pattern but 14 inch wheels. I managed to find a spare wheel for my car, but again it wound up being a 13 inch falcon wheel same as the 641/2. I believe you had better check the four bolt patterns on the fox bodies, I may be wrong, but I believe they may 4 1/4 inch. 4.25, or the metric equivalent. Google 41/2 inch to 41/4 wheel adapters.
I forget the site, but, they have some billet aluminum adapters to get about any ford four bolt wheel to fit your car. I plan to keep the 41/2 bolt pattern and go with some alum. wheels from American Racing. They aren't too much more expensive than a new steel stock appearing wheel, IF you can find one. Either way good luck and HAPPY 'STANGING!!! jb1rd out!!

Thanks for all the advice guys. But from what yall are saying, is that a normal set of 79' Cobra rims will fit without mods? I know I might sound stupid, but I'm an engine guy, not too tech savvy in wheels/suspension...

Default 4lug

74-78 4 lug = 4x4.25 (4x4 1/4) OR 4x108mm
79-93 4 lug = SAME EXCEPT FOR THE '88-93 COBRA 5 LUG...

BTW, u cant get gears for a 7.5 ( i did it on my 78 fairmont). EVEN found a posi for it! Too bad my 3.3L/200CI, L6 didnt make enough power to even spin ONE wheel lol

You're not alone on that one. haha.
But, correct me if I'm wrong, wouldnt a 16x8 or a 17x9 be too wide/deep for the wheel well?

Well im thinking about going through my local ginormous junkyard (pullapart) and look for me a 4 lug rear end from a truck. If its got leafs already and is 4 lug ill measure it lol! if it measures right ill see if its a posi or if i can make it a posi. I know you can take 8.8 rear ends out of fox bodies that are 4 lug and they can be given posi but the bad part is you have to cut the old stuff off and weld in spring perches and other stuff...which personally i don't feel to happy about welding something that ggoes under that much pressure.

nope lol im gonna do some 5 lug swapping and some beffier rear ends 8.8 explorer rear end 3.73 gears disc brakes in the rear with an aluminum drive shaft and well ill leave the front 4 lugs till i can find the stuff or get the cash for a 5 lug front disc brake swap. the rear is actually cheaper lol...the fox body 8.8s are a diff 4 lug pattern...so o well. 5 lug is probobly safer anyways
