Cool EFI conversion 302

I am thinking of converting my 68 302 to EFI. has anyone done this on their own? I have seen a lot of info regarding this swap, but wanted to hear from those who have done this. I have a donor EFI system from an 89 5.0 including the computer, etc. I believe I need to buy a conversion harness to complete the swap, but wanted to hear from guys that have completed such a task.
Thanks for the help.

It is very easy to do and the conversion harnesses are foolproof. The plug ends can go only to certian devices so dont worry about plugging up something wrong - you pretty much cant.
I woul not try to use an old harness but some folks do.
You will need to weld in an O2 bung in each exhaust pipe and other than plugging stuff in you connect 3 wires. 1 ground to batt, 1 hot to batt and 1 signal to the start side of the starter solenoid. Oh yeah, you have to run 2 fuel lines(one pressure one return, use an electric pump and install a inertia switch in the trunk somewhere. to be honest the hardest thing is fuel lines to do, use rubber hose between the pump and line or the fuel will cause the lines to scream all the time(shockwaves from the pumping action passes from the fuel into the rigid lines but if you put hose from the pump to the rigid lines the rubber hose absorbs the vibrations, that is why the factory uses that black heat shrink type hose all over to keep the pump isolated)

I would agree with silver completely. I would add the placement of the computer could be a bit different than on the '89. I have done two vehicles, a '65 Rancher and a '64 Falcon conv.

On the Ranchero that has the stock heater setup I put the computer on the inside of the firewall just above the defroster plenum. On the Falcon I made a false floor in the passenger compartment because of the use of an aftermarket in dash a/c unit. I moved the heater coil to under the passenger side fender so there would be no danger of it leaking onto the computer. Also on both there was not any room for the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) in the transmission so I used an underdash unit instead. For more info see: 1964 Falcon RestoMod.

I am building this car from the ground up and have added a stainless steel return line thinking that I would eventually make this swap. I am currently running a low pressure Holley electric pump and will need to update the pump along with the O2 sensor bungs, and would buy the EFI harness if I move forward. I'm just looking for opinions as to whether it's worth the effort or not and to get info on what to avoid, etc........Here is a link to give you an idea of what I have done.

In my opinion it is worth it. I have had many old Fords including '57 T-Birds, '66 T-Birds, Mustangs, and now my 2 Falcons. They are both EFI 5.0L engines and I feel they are the most trouble free of any I've owned. I regularly park my Ranchero for months at a time and I can turn the key to on and after the fuel pump cuts off it will fire right up. No more dry carb bowls that sludge up and engines that run like crap for the first tank or so.

its worth it hands down no question. You have a nice shop and the car is coming along great! With efi you will be running 40 PSI to the engine so you must use efi fuel hose to do so. We ran our return and pressure lines on the passenger side becasue that is where the injected engines get the fuel feeds. We used 2000 explorer engines which are left over cobra ford engines(GT40P)
If I could figure out how to post videos I would show you how we did our cars(69 convertibles). great job so far though!
My brother put the engine computer and trans computer on top of the pocket there is an area in the 69's behind the time clock on the passenger side. In my mach1 its in the glovebox.
Why EFI? because when you and I move on to the next life our kids wont have to fight a flooding carb or stuck float(they have no clue as it is about mechanical things), heck I dont want to deal with it now, so I didi somethng about it - EFI.
