Talking new member 1964 mustang! Transmission problem

My name is Nicole and I'm originally from Humbolt county california but I now live in San Diego. I have a 1965 coupe straight 6 automatic and she is my baby.

Since I've had her I have learned a lot about cars but not as much as I eventually want to know.

I recently towed my mustang all the way from humboldt to san diego which is a 16 hour drive. Before I left there was no problem and I ran fine. When I unloaded it in San Diego the transmission isn't working properly. Basically the car turns on and everything fine but when I try to put it in gear it wont go. The shifter moves but doesnt do anything in the transmission. Before I had a problem with my transmission lines being loose and needed to be tightened.

Would it be possible that the lines just need to be tightened again or what do you think is the problem? I am just trying to figure out what is wrong with it before getting it looked at because I am a poor college kid !

If you have any suggestions please let me know I look foward to hearing from anybody who knows anything about transmissions!

Welcome Nicole; You mentioned your lines coming loose in the past, after a 16 hour ride being towed they could have come loose again. Have you checked your fluid level? If your lines came loose, and leaked enough fluid that would cause the problem. It's either that, or you could have a bad converter, Mike. SCT Tuner.

Hello.
It sounds like either the transmission is low on fluid or that the shift lever under car came loose.

When towed, was it on a trailer or a tow dolly? If on a tow dolly you needed to remove the driveshaft or you will damage the tranny. If on a tow dolly, with driveshaft removed its possible that enough tranny fluid ran out the tailshaft that you are low on fluid.

If the C4 was towed with the rear wheels on the ground and the driveline was in it - The transmission can wear in every seal, sealing rings, gears, bands and clutches. Everything can turn and there is no lubrication unless the engine is turning.
You are due for a rebuild at the very least. It might be better to get a core and rebuild it.

If you tow it with the rear wheels on the ground and turning you are supposed to take the drive shaft out or you destroy the transmission as Paul said. Sounds like this is what might have happened.
