Default Fuel pump eccentric problems

Hi! I need help.I have a 65 coupe early year 289 and my eccentric that pumps the manual fuel pump keeps coming loose. The first time it was the wrong one.I replaced the broken incorrect one with the correct parts and it is loose after only two to three hundred miles.I really don' want this to happen again.I need advice on electric fuel pumps and does the pump need to be close to the tank. Also if I just block off the fuel pump hole and go with the elec pump can the eccentric damage the engine.I guess what i'm asking is do I need to take the engine apart and tighten the part or remove it.It will be my third time. Has anyone had this to happen to them? What could cause this part to come loose.I'm just a rookie but I know I put the right pin and tightened the bolt with washer to hold it. Any help would great!!!! Randy

Did you use locktite on the screw? There are 2 different eccentrics, a one piece and a 2 piece, depends on what cam gear you use as they are thicker/thinner at the center which dictates which eccentric you can use. If the wrong ones are used it's normally too tall and rubs the inside of the TC. There are also 2 differnt size bolts depending on your cam.
I've never used an electric pump on this car but you should be able to just use the block off, however if you don't know whether the eccentric is loose or not it could come off and jamb up your timing gears = very bad. I'd remove it if you go that route.

I just got a 2 piece from comp cams so all i do is just stick them together and bolt them down to 35ft lbs with some locktite? The outter ring is oblongor not perfectly round like the smaller inner one, it is supposed to be like this?

Oblong = yes, the 'egg' shape is what pumps the FP arm up and down to pump fuel, if it was round it wouldn't pump. I suggested the locktite as his continues to loosen, if you use it use a light grade in case you have to remove later.

Unless your ready to deal with severla modifications, I would stay away form the electric fuel pump. It is much more than blocking off the mechanical pump opening and mounting an electric pump somewhere. you have electrical connections, return lines, ect. Some may even require a pressure regulator.

They are nice and work well but can be a hassle.

Jonk67 is correct, just use a little loctite on the screw when you put it back in. If its coming loose, is it do to the pin in the cam being to short. i assume its a stock cam and you did nothing to change the pin so you should be okay. The only way for it to back out is if it has a load on it only. The pin not only sets position but takes the torque load of the eccentric. Make sure nothing is rubbing the cover.
