Default Will a 429 install instead of 351w

I have a chance to buy a 1971 429 out of a couger. I would like to put this in my 69 mach1 which has now a 351w. The engine will need rebuilding and a carb/bearings.........only come with pistons, heads, intake, block. which has been in storage for 20yrs. all is in good shape but I'm I getting in over my head. AND will this even fit into my MACH1 without having to change the trans..(FMX).
WIll the 429 bolt to trans and engine mounts??

Does anyone know if this will work out? I'm getting the 429 for $400 and has very low miles.

thanks jason

They fit the 429 in those cars but it is not going to be a drop in. You are probably going to have to change your transmission as the big blocks require a C-6 and you most likely have a C-4 automatic on your 351w. If you have a manual trans you may just be able to get a new bellhousing and change to the larger input shaft if it is a toploader.

As for the motor mounts it will not bolt in either. You will need the big block motor mounts for your car.

A big block in your car would be awsome but you have to ask yourself if your ready for all these modifications. Keep in mind that you could build a great 351w for around the same price or less, than what this will cost and it will just bolt right back into place

No problem. And yeah if the numbers match you should definitely stick with the 351
