Default 68 spindles?!?!?

K well i forgot where but in an earlier (long time ago) post I had read that the I6 spindle and v8 spindle were the same in 68 and up. The reason being is i have a 68 mustang original I6 so it has the 4 lug setup. This weekend im going to look at a 66 mustang in a junkyard and was wondering if the 66 happen to be v8 that it might possibly have v8 spindles i could use. Also would i need to change the spindles or if they are the same could i simply just take the brake peices on the 66 (5lug) and simply put them in place of my current drum brakes. I am wanting to do the 5 lug swap and already know where to get the rear from but am just curious if i can get the 5 lug from the front of this 66. Thanks in adance.

The spindles are the same in the I6 and v8 on the 68. They are not on the 66. I don't think the brakes are the same between the 66 and 68. You need brakes from a 67 or 68 to put on the 68.

Shag,

You question was---Will the 66 V8 Drums, Hardware, Bearing, Etc FIT on the 68 Drum Brake Spindle.

Every Piece!

Take off one, put on other, just that easy.

Everything is exactly the same on those C5DA/C4ZA 66 Spindles as the C6OA Spindles on the 68--EXCEPT the Steering arm length, which is 1/2" Longer on the 68 Spindles, AND the Tie Rod hole taper.

Now a little advice, the chances of getting good free operating cylinders, good shoes, hardware not rust bad, is not on your side.

Robbing old rust parts for a brake job will usually end up costing more in the long run than buying new from the onset.

One more Fact here with either the 66 V8 Spindles, or the 68 6 Cylinder spindles, you can install Factory Style K/H 4 Piston Disc Brakes on either as Ford Did on the assembly line on all 65 66 67 Mustangs, Fairlanes, Comets with Disc Brakes---Even the 428 Shebly Cars used these.
