Default 390 or 351w.How can i tell the difference?

How can i tell the difference between a 390 or a 351W?Is the intake different or valve covers.

Easest way is that all Windsors have six bolt valve cover while the FE series has only five. Intake totally different also.

Also the valve cover spans both the outer portions of the intake as well as the cylinder head.

The 390 has "pent-roof" valve covers which are tall and skinny, flat on top. And like boomyal says, the quickest way to tell is that on FE's (360, 390, 427, 428), the head is like split. Part of the head is on the intake manifold.
