Default 1967 Mustang AC compressor removal

I want to remove the entire AC unit but not sure where to begin. Do i need special tools to discharge the system? Can I just puncture the hoses and let it drain that way? The car had been sitting for about 10 years and canister looks to be original, so would I even have to worry about discharging? Any help would be appreciated.

By Law, you a supposed to empty the refigerant from the system with a recovery machine into a recovery bottle, before openng the lines up. It may not have anything in there. If it's still R-12 in there, it's very expensive to replace if you can even find it.

Why are you pulling the compressor?
