Default 1965 coil springs for non-mustang

I am working on the suspension of my comet and I have been told that it uses mustang front suspension parts namely the coil springs. Right now the car weighs about 2500lbs and has a 289 up front. The front tires are 205-70-14 but will hopefully soon be switched out for something with a lower profile and a bit wider like a 215-60-14. I am trying to figure out now what springs I need for the front. Right now they are stock and soft. I am hoping to have something that will let my car handle without the massive amount of body roll I am now experiencing. Thanks for the help.

Read through the suspension section of this (Mustangs Plus)...

http://www.mustangsplus.com/catalog/suspension_09.pdf

They have the coil springs for several Fords all on the same page including your Comet and it appears that they share the same part numbers.

If your car originally had a 6 cyl - you should get the V8 springs. That will help quite a bit, but if you can take it to the next step get the V8 front sway bar if they are available for Comets (they gotta be!) and that will really help with the roll. Some springs will lower the original ride height so becareful you get what you want and if you have old 6cyl springs now, when you go to V8 springs you'll see a big difference in the height of the front of the car and you may have to look into replacing the rear springs.

They look like they have some nice stuff. I'd say that those 620 springs look pretty good and sound about right for my application. Have you ever tried out any of their products?

I already have the 1" sway bar and I'm giving the rear end some sort of stiffening but I'm not sure what yet as it uses a different size leaf than is common.

Buzz, I have never used any of their parts but they have been around for a long time and seem to know their stuff. Think those are the people who road race the stuff they sell. I'm doing a '66' Ranchero and like you, have had to find a good interchange manual so I could use the easy find Mustang stuff. Most of the '66' fits and works on my '69' Fairlane, again Mustang parts.
Dave - sounds like a fun project, don't see many Comets around anymore.
