Default New to site and Mustangs, have a question already

Hello everyone,

I posted this in the classic talk section, but I thought I would post it in here as well. I am new to the site and Mustangs as well. I am looking forward to learning the ins and outs of Mustangs and meeting new people. I have recently bought a 64 coupe that needs quite a bit of TLC. The interior is not horrible but the front seats are completely shot. The question I have is obviously about the seats. I have found a set of front bucket seats. The guy told me they came out of a 64 Mustang as well. He said that is why the passenger seat doesn't adjust. Never heard of a seat not adjusting. The upholstery is in really good condition. The only issue is that the thread used on one of the seams on the top of the seat has came lose allowing the material to seperate. The seats are solid, the foam inside seems to be really good, and the frames have little rust on them. So here is the thing, is $300 dollars an ok price for the set? I checked Ebay and saw some pretty trashed seats that were going for $200. I just want to make sure I am not totally getting taken.

Thanks for the help

If i was you i'd go and get a NPD (national parts depot) mustang magazine or a virginia classic mustang parts magazine. They have EVERYTHING and i stress everything so you could fix your old seats and get it done yourself. as for price i'd look at these 2 magazines then compare it with the seller your thinking about. Plus even if you don't buy them from these magazines they are great to have when looking for any part. o and Welcome to the site

Shagadoddle is right. Besides, part of the fun is fixing what you have versus buying all new stuff.

I add that you need to decide whether or not you intend to try to keep in "original" or a restomod. Original is cool but expensive. Restomod is fun and less expensive. With a restored and modified car you open up a lot of possibilities but lose a little of the uniqueness of the early cars. Niether is a bad choice, it is a decision that you need to make.

Enjoy your Stang!

Welcome to the site, enjoy your new mustang. The seats were completely shot on my 67 but I went a different route that cost me around $300 and a few bruised knuckles. I took the seats out and stripped them all the way to the frame. Then sanded and repainted them, and bought new foam and upholstery from Mustangs Unlimited and redid the seats. They came out great. See this link for instructions on how to do that

How To Reupholster Seats - Mustang Monthly

I am also including some pictures.

Hello everybody,

Thanks for all the responses. The reason I am looking for new seats is that mine are totally shot. The frames are bent and most of the springs are rusted through. I can't even imagine what they have been through. So I don't really have the resources to repair what I have. This is why I am looking for different seats. Being new to the Mustang crowd I just don't want to pay too much if I don't have too.

Thanks again everyone.

I seen a 64 or 65 might of been a 66 at a salvage today ,i noticed it had a seat in it .Im sure it needed redone. But look around because you never know what you'll find.Because one man's junk is another mans treasure. Not every one knows what they have(as in mustangs)and they can show up in salvages.

Hello.

If your car had a scheduled production date prior to May 1st, it would have come with a non-adjustable passenger side seat.
