A revision number is when a design change has been instituted to make the part more durable. Is that what you wanted? or are you asking about a specific part?

It's design changes that were done to that part but not always for durability, it could be anything.

For example an existing engine block may have had more tapped holes spec'd out on the front for added emissions components being needed on next years model cars and they needed a way to mount them. This may even be a running change done during the current model year even though they aren't needed but it will allow smoother transition to the next model year.

Where I work even if a specific finish is changed on a part, for example, an aluminum part that was originally called out to be painted by the engineer on thier drawing changes it to being anodized instead, is considered a change to the part and a revision is done to the original drawing to spec out the new finish.

I don't think I'd use a removable part as a basis to find out what transmission it is.

Post some photos of it here and I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

I would ,but i don't think anyone can tell me the year of the tranny just by looking @ a pic.I know its a FMX, and that's what everyone will tell me from a pic. It's in the car and would be hard to see in a pic.But on the other hand if someone could tell me what year my engine came out of from a pic that would be awsome.

Have you looked for casting numbers on the engine block? I think '68 and up engines had a partial VIN stamped on them at the back end of the engine.

I can tell you that your heads and intake is not original to your '69 Mustang. They are from a 1971 351 Cleveland.

This is a great site for decoding casting numbers:

Decoding Ford casting part numbers

This site will help you figure out what your transmission is too.

Head - D1Z-E DA
1971 351C
Valves 2.19, 1.71
Open Chamber 73-76cc

Intake - D1Z-E 9425 BB
1971 351CJ Mustang
4V
Spread Bore
Ports 2.38" x 1.63"

Thanks 67 Ragtop my 69 stang came with a 351 w 2bbl.It's an 'H' code. The 351C came out a wrecked 71,72,73 Mach1.My dad did the swap in the earley 1980's but he could not remember the exact year of the car,he did always say it was a 351CJ.The Quenched heads are the better ones right? And when the engine was built last year it had the 4bolt bottom end.So i would guess it's a 1971 351C CJ with open chamber.I also thought 351C had 2.25 valves?

I don't have any more info on that engine, other than what is found on that website.
