FWIIW, I painted my '65 with all removable body parts off of the car. It was a real pain to reassemble everything and to get them lined up. I marred up a lot of paint around the bolt holes shifting things back and forth.

Once reassembled, the paint job did not look good because all of the parts had slightly different patterns from each other, having been remotely sprayed.

I ended up color sanding everything down and having it reshot all assembled.

As for the interior, yeah, I would do that first.

Boomyal did you reshoot it or did someone else.Im in a tough spot on deciding about trusting someone with my baby or painting it myself.I'v done 80% of the body work.I'v painted all the jambs & it's in primer now.I want perfection on my part, but i have gotten cold feet because it will be black. So i'm at a stand still on the paint it's overwhelming with all the information out there.

I did all my prep work then shot all the individual pieces. When it was time for the re-spray, I sanded it down then took it to a pro for the re-shoot. Today, I would probably do it myself except for black. Plus, being a fastback, you have a large expanse of roof right up at eye level. In black, the prep and paint would want to be perfect.

Since you already have the hood and fenders off, I would edge them in- painting everything that is NOT visible with the hood closed, including the underside of the hood. Open the doors, and mask off the interior, and edge in the jambs. Then, I would put the hood and fenders back on. I would also paint the underside of the trunklid and the jamb as well.

As for the inside of the doors and dash, I would do that too- start from the inside, and work your way out. I wouldn't even think about the outside at this point, until everything above is complete.

Once thats all behind you, the hood, fenders, doors, trunk, etc. is aligned, then I'd start working the outside. Everyone has their own ways, but this is what I would do.
