Default Installing stereo in 1965 Mustang glovebox

Hello all. I am looking for good ideas on how to mount a stereo in my 65 glovebox. I have seen the flair tool method but am looking for other ideas that have worked. I don't need the glovebox for storage. I have the stereo and have the speakers installed in the kick panels and dash. At this point I don't want to buy one of the replacement stereos that fit in the dash. No budget. That may come in the future.
Thanks

I don't know about putting one in the glove box because its too far over and would be quite difficult to change stations or volume but what i did was remove the original radio holder on my 68 and tooksome really bendable metal (mine was a 3 inch wide probobly a foot long peice of roofing gutter that i cut where it was flatest) I took this bent it in the shape of the radio and drilled holes for some screws and hooked the radio in and bolted it to the dash where the old radio holder was. It doesn't look pretty but it sure beats spending $100 on a radio holder for a modern radio. What i did works, its simple, easy to take in and out, and i guess you could say its just redneck but im happy with it i mean its not like im gonna have it like that forever. Well thats what i did if you want to consider it. You could probobly do the same in the dash and have a remote control but goodluck with your project.

I have a new pioneer installed in my 65 under the dash. I have a kickin system with two amps and 12'' subs so running a crappy retro look radio wasnt an option. I got an under dash mount from a local car audio store for about $30 and mounted it under the dash it look real nice. If you are standing outside the car you cant even see it. Its a reach to turn the volume up and down though so i use the remote that came with the radio. I velcroed it to my center consol so I just reach down to adjust the controls. To fill the hole in the dash I got a retro look radio off ebay that didnt work. I can send you some pics if you like.

Amazon.com: AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL TVC104 Radio Install Kit: Electronics
Amazon.com: Metra 99-9000 Dash Kit For Uni Under Dash Full Shroud: Electronics

USE ONE OF THESE, the second one (metra brand) even has a picture of it installed in a mustang, I believe it is one of the forum member's car.

Hello. I wasn't going to say it, but, that's sure what I was thinking when I read that.

About 18 months ago I put a AM/FM/CD/MP3.... in to the glove box and it was very easy. Of course, I have ruined a perfectly good $8 glove box with the extra holes. I put two small 4 inch speakers to replace the front speaker and have 6x9's in the package tray. I usually just have the MP3 or cd going so I dont have to worry about changing channels.

Still have the AM radio in the dash and kept power to it so it lights up at night.

As an afterthougt, I would have looked for a unit that would fit in the center console but it was a father's day gift so I did not look at exchanging.

So how did you mount it onto the cardboard liner? Did you use a universal plastic install kit and then bolt it into the cardboard liner? Do you have any pictures? I would think the weight of it would rip the glove box liner...

I did not mount the unit to the cardboard and the unit is not really attached to the glove box. I put the unit inside the metal sleeve so that the anti-theft detent on the unit is depressed but it is not attached to anything.

I did not want to hang it under the dash as when I bought the car that is where the CB radio radio and it looked like a--

Due to the bottom of the glove box being lower than the front lip, I picked up a plastic storage tray at Walmart, turned it upside down, to fill in the bottom. The stereo sits on top of the upside down storage tray. As its not attached, it may move around a little but I have not noticed a problem.

When I bought my '65, someone had already done the hard part of putting a modern stereo in the glovebox, thankfully sparing the original Ford AM radio in the dash. The stereo has a remote, so reaching over wasn't an issue, but I felt like an idiot having to drive around with the glovebox open to listen to it. I hid an IR repeater under the dash and mounted the sensor on the corner of the heater case. It works perfectly with the remote and is completely invisible.

In my car there was no glovebox installed when I got it so I mounted my headunit to a piece of sheet PVC and mounted that to the holes that were used for the glovebox. As some have said it's quite a ways over there when driving but I only have to change CD's every 1.2 hours.
