I just bought a 1971 Convertible with a 302 power steering, power front disk brakes and air conditioning. I really dislike the stock distributor becuase it is always getting water in it when I try to clean up under the hood.

I am looking to replace the stock distributor with an HEI type and do not want to get too involved in modifications. I want a drop in, plug up distributor with plenty of sealed power. I am planning on doing a complete rebuild on the motor in the not to distant future with a bit more radical cam but do want to maintain the A/C and enough vaccum to run all the power accesories.

I would appreciate any input and experiences you may have had and what other parts I will need to complete the swap. One question, will I need anything other then the distributor and will it need a vaccum? It has been a long time since I had a street car and that was a 1967 Camero, 327 with a Muncie M-22 rock crusher that I built back in 1985.

HEI is a chebby thing but look for davis unified ignitions DUI sposed to be damn good and they can tune it to your specific needs and mods, welcome as well

check out mustangs plus. They have a hei distributor made by petronix looks like a nice unit although idont know anyone using it.

Check Sumittracing for an MSD ready to run dist. it has adjustable vac. advance so you can set max adv. curve etc.

Second for MSD. I was not pleased with the quality of the Pertronix.
