Default 351c to 302 distributor question

I have an 86 roller 302 in my 66 mustang. It currently has an HEI ignition on it. I was just given a mallory electronic distributor and coil off of a 351 cleveland. I see that the gears are different and my question is that if I swap the gear from the HEI onto the mallory will it work in my 302?

If the distributor shafts are the same diameter, then it should work.

I think the 351C and 351W have a 5/16" shaft to drive the oil pump, the 302's had a 1/4" hex shaft. get an oil pump shaft for an 86 302 and see if it fits the dist you have or else you are going to smoke that motor., I think the length of the body below the "O" ring shoulder is different as well.

The 351C and 429 distributors are interchangable but I do not think they fit in a windsor (302/351) type motor.

The hex that drives the oil pump is a different size. The 302 and 351 distributors are NOT interchangeable.
The only distributors that work in a 302 are 221, 260, 289 and 302 distributors.
