Default 351c in 65 mustang

i have a 1965 mustang and i just bought a 351c for it and just rebuild it for the car and was wondering if there were any tips that i could get on the swap i know i need different headers and motor mounts but i just dont know were to go to get them and if they even make them for such a swap i would perfer long tube headers if i can get them but would settle for shorties... and the last question would i have to get a different trans i have a c4 but have been told that i would have to get a c6 just want to clairify that one up and just how difficult the swap is in general and if there is any modifications that need to be done.i dont want to hack the body to shreds either i would like to stay with a stock look...well thank you for all your help and input on it.

First, I personally think the shorties would be better. You get a lot more versatility with them. I have them on my 65 289 and they are great to work with in that cramped, little engine bay. But that is just my own opinion.

I have also heard from some people that the long tube headers give issues like road scraping in bumpy/pot holed road areas, coming out of some driveway/parking lots, speed bumps, etc.

The 351C. I heard that it makes things really cramped in the engine bay. I have 'heard stories' of people having to beat on the shock towers a little bit to make the manifolds/headers fit. But that's just what I heard. But I have heard clevelands have great power potential.

I believe the Clevelands are suppose to be a little bigger than the Windsors.

it is a pretty easy swap. the mounts are the same, the c-4 will bolt up,(i may need a rebuild to hold up). and hooker and headman both make headers. p.s. the 351M block is not the same.

jegs and/or summit should have the headers. and NO they are not the same. mounts and transmission bolt pattern on the M are the same as 429/460. on the cleveland the are the same as 289/302/351W

no no no...I Cleveland or 351M will not "bolt up" into a 65 no matter the mounts, you will have to cut the shock towers to make it work, it's mistake to even put one in...351w/stroker or built 289 yes, but the boat anchor no...

Sorry to hear about your pain.

The 351m won't work, but the 351c would have worked for you. It is tight, but it does fit without shock tower work.

The cleveland may fit but plan on keeping the engine crane for changing the sparkplugs..
