Default Cowl repair question

I am pulling the top of the cowl off on Monday and wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions on how I should prep and what I should use as far as future protection?? After replacing the cowl vent collar, my plan was to treat the rusting surface, prime and the apply undercoating. Any suggestions?

I would just paint the bare metal with POR-15. Two brushed on coats should last as long as you own the car. I would not use undercoating.

Thanks rbinck, Looks like a good product!! I looked online and looks like it is just mainly sold online, wonder if I could find it at a store around town (Houston).
By the way, I love this site already. Looks like there is some experience on here with some helpful ideas! Again thanks

I am having a heck of a time breaking loose the corner of the cowl at the window where Ford braised the metal together. I am trying not to tear the metal up. I am thinking of cutting the cowl between the wiper blade connection and at the base of the window. Any helpful ideas out the?? The front and side was easy to break loose, it is just at the two corners that are $%^&..

I got some from AJ Foyt Paint & Supplies. Give them a call. Google for a store near you.

Just painting it would do fine.Ford only primered it when it was new.

Probably right considering the car has seen its worst days already. Now that it is in the hands of an enthusiast it most likely won't get vegetation collected in the cowl which causes most of the problems. Problems aggravated by the fact that Ford only primed these areas.

Alternatives to a full cowl removal:
Cowl Repair
Boyd's Mustang: Cowl repair

Just some other options to consider in repairing a leaking cowl.
Not the "correct" method but both do work and can solve your problem if the lower pan metal is not too far gone.
Good Luck and BE Safe

Default Cowl repair

I just finished this repair last month. I did cut the upper cowl completely off. I have alot of rust around my vents and about 2" away from vent in spots so one of the repair kits would not work. I cut the vents out and fabed flat metal to slop to the corner so water would flow and welded in. Wire brushed lower cowl and put KBS coating (same as POR-15) on 2 coats, the done the same on bottom side of upper cowl. Welded everything back together.

I will be using vintage air on my car
