Default 1967 Mustang exterior lamp flicker

First off thanks to all who can help me. I purchased this car about a month ago this was a 6 to 8V conversion at some point.
I notice that my lights flicker at idle, the wire loom for the alternator looked pretty beatup, I ordered a new harness for a 289 and what I got does not match up, the connector from the alt.harness is the same as the one that it plugs into the one coming from the fender, it's a 2 female one male, is it possible I needed the alt. wire loom for a 6cyl ? and is it possible the the alternator is for a 6 cyl. also ?....thank you

Only at idle?

Flicker is a common symptom of a faulty voltage regulator, but they generally flicker at most any speed...

It should be most noticeable in the headlights at night.
