Default 1965 defroster plenum damper detached

This is so disappointing....

After replacing the heater core and refurbing the box, I installed it into the car and hooked up all the cables....only to find that the metal damper in the plastic defroster plenum had come loose. It's just floating around in there. Does anyone know if there's a way to fiddle with it so that it goes where it's supposed to without removing the whole shebang again?

ugh!

The plastic defroster box just screws onto the metal blower duct on the back of the heater box, you can easily remove it while everything is in the car...

Should be 3 set screws holding the plenum. Two on the top, one on the bottom. Remove those and the plenum should slide off. The screws take a 1/4" socket. If you need a little wiggle room, loosen the 4 nuts that hold the heater assembly at the firewall.
