Default Question about TDC compression stroke.

I have the timing cover and all of the stuff on the motor, and I want to make sure I did this right.

I have the #1 all the way up as high as it will go before going down, crank key way straight up and cam gear sprocket dot straight down. That will automatically have on compresstion when I put all of the rods in and heads on right?

You install the rods and pistons into the block, then install the camshaft, then rotate engine until #1 piston is up all the way and crank key straight up, line up the cam to install the cam gear with the mark as said, then work on sprocket, chain and gear as a unit. then you are ready to set heads on engine.

Degree the cam, don't count on the dots. Many times either the keyway in the crank or the dowel pin location is off on the cam.

Trust me, I made cams for a bit, we weren't that good at setting the dowel location. I always will degree in my cams now.

Buy the wheel and stuff on ebay, then turn around and sell it again, won't cost too much for piece of mind.
