What are Turbo Trannys?

I meet alot of old guys and when they are talking about their car 99% of the time they have a turbo tranny in it. So whats the difference between the stock tranny and the Turbo tranny? Also is it only a chevy thing because right now all the guys i can think of that say they have one own old chevys.

I think Chevy named all their automatic trannys back in the day "turbo trannys", but they are regular trannys. I might be wrong.

General Motors labeled their automatic transmissions as "Turbo-Hydramatic"..."Turbo" for short. They had a "Turbo 350" and a "Turbo 400". I suppose you could say they were comparable to Ford's C4 and C6 as far as size and capability.
